It’s a small business with a big mission: create better outcomes for amputees.

Amputee Associates carries out this mission by partnering with vascular surgeons across the US to establish and manage prosthetic clinics, bridging the gap in the coordination of care and streamlining the process for these medical professionals. They provide a proven clinical coordination of care program, education on advanced surgical techniques, and state-of-the-art prosthetics.

With their growing business and to further their mission, they needed a custom application to streamline data management across multiple clinics, but they didn’t have the budget to create something from scratch. 

Knack allowed them to create their own no-code application to efficiently manage patient information from multiple clinics, without having to hire an expert or blow their budget.

Data Overrides Become Obsolete

Before Knack, Amputee Associates used spreadsheets to manage patient data. However, relying on these cloud-based spreadsheets for their several remote clinics led to data overrides, bogged-down systems, and information overload.

Knack provided a solution by enabling real-time coordination of data access and updates. Knack helped them stop accidental changes so everyone could work on information simultaneously, keeping records consistent and accurate.

An Affordable, Easy-to-Use Solution to Data Chaos

Amputee Associates didn’t want to spend a fortune coding an app from scratch. Instead, they needed something easier on the budget that let them build a system that fit their specific needs. As Macy Frick, VP of Business Operations, notes, “We were in this odd inbetween where we were growing and had become big enough that we needed something custom for what we were doing, but we were not yet large enough to have the resources to fully develop our own application or software.”

Amputee Associates looked at a tool similar to Knack, but the team “felt like it was overly complex and even though it was extremely customizable, it was clear they would still need a developer to successfully build even the simplest of applications. ” 

Knack, on the other hand, was an affordable and easy-to-use system that Amputee Associates could start building their application on their own and partner with developers as needed to customize to their needs.

Building an Iterable System

Since Amputee Associates wasn’t sure how this transition from Excel to an app would pan out, they also wanted a solution they could customize and iterate quickly if needed.

Instead of breaking the bank on expensive custom software, Amputee Associates found the perfect fit with Knack. They could customize their system according to their needs and continue to tweak it over time.

Creating a New, Coordinated Cadence

Amputee Associates wanted a solution that could improve coordination among their colleagues. Knack revolutionized their workflow dynamics for records management, scheduling, appointments, and claims. 

For example, before Knack, handling claims was a hassle. They’d have to request document uploads for review, causing delays. But, with the app they built with Knack, they could access these materials in real time. Knack also made it so those involved could add notes to records, access scheduling systems, and track appointments in one unified platform. With all the information in one place and updated instantly for all users, this cut down the time employees were using fulfilling requests and/or waiting on documentation from others and allowed them to use that time for more meaningful and impactful tasks.

Intuitive Experience for End Users

Before Knack, Amputee Associates grappled with a system that relied heavily on everyone remembering complex data entry processes, making their system more error-prone and inconsistent. 

Knack allowed them to craft a more intuitive system, preventing staff members from having to remember specific processes and procedures. Knack made entering data easy for everyone with its simple interface. They no longer had to worry about remembering complicated steps, which made their process smoother and more accurate, saving hours of time each week.

HIPAA Compliance Using Smart Data Retrieval

Knack played a crucial role in ensuring HIPAA compliance for Amputee Associates by filtering out irrelevant data. As they collaborated with surgeons treating patients outside their scope, Knack’s system ensured they accessed only the necessary patient information. 

This filtering not only streamlined their workflow but also made sure they followed HIPAA regulations.

Using Data to Improve Amputee Outcomes

One of the main goals of Amputee Associates is to improve the outcomes for amputees. They did this by measuring many crucial data points. Initially, they turned to Excel as a solution, but the limitations became apparent. The depth and breadth of data they sought to analyze required a more robust and sophisticated tool. Knack, on the other hand, allowed them to interpret several data points effectively. This not only led to data-proven results, but also led to the company having the resources and information needed to support medical journals published by members of their team.

What’s Next for Amputee Associates and Knack?

Amputee Associates had grappled with a complicated system. However, once they built their app through Knack, they were able to address their unique billing needs, improve coordination, and streamline diverse data tracking. As Macy aptly put it, “It has built an infrastructure around our processes and procedures.”

But the impact goes beyond just efficiency. Knack’s dynamic nature allows Amputee Associates to continue to improve their system.
